‘Baywatch’ star Zac Efron has a near-death experience recently. The actor who was filming for an upcoming survival documentary in Papua New Guinea was flown to a hospital in Australia after becoming ill with a deadly infection. The 32-year-old reportedly contracted the infection while filming a TV show in the country.
As reported by Sunday Telegraph, the former Disney star was in the eastern part of the world for the shoot of his special series. He began showing symptoms of a “form of typhoid or similar bacterial infection” just days before Christmas. Things took a turn for the worse and Efron reportedly flown to Brisbane on a “life-or-death flight.” He was accompanied by medical professionals.
The report added that upon his arrival in Brisbane, he was admitted to St Andrews War Memorial Hospital. Where the actor was treated for several days before was given all the clearance. He is reportedly “in a stable condition” now and was back home by Christmas Eve.
The Hollywood reporter revealed that the daredevil series would see Zac venture deep into the jungle of a remote, dangerous island, falling off the grid for 21 days. The Quibi adventure series is said to star and be executive produced by Zac, who would forego all luxuries to survive with nothing but basic gear and a guide partner for the challenge.
Zac’s latest TV venture comes after he won praise for his role as killer Ted Bundy in Netflix’s Extremely Wicked, Shockingly Evil and Vile earlier this year.
