Indian cricketer Krunal Pandya had tested COVID-19 positive in Sri Lanka. The second T20 International between India and Sri Lanka had to be postponed due to it. The match was eventually played on Wednesday. Two more Indian cricketers have tested positive for Covid-19. They are Yuzvendra Chahal & Krishnappa Gowtham.
After Krunal Pandya tested coronavirus positive, all the cricketers who had come in contact with him were tested. the members who were isolated after Pandya tested positive were Yuzvendra Chahal, Krishnappa Gowtham, Prithvi Shaw, Suryakumar Yadav, Hardik Pandya, Deepak Chahar, Manish Pandey and Ishan Kishan. Yuzvendra Chahal & Krishnappa Gowtham tests came out positive. Both of them are asymptomatic.
As per a report in ESPNCricinfo, Chahal, Gowtham and the other six close contacts of Krunal along with the Mumbai Indians (MI) all-rounder will be staying back in Colombo. Krunal, Yuzi Chahal and Gowtham will remain in isolation for ten days. They will once again be tested before they can be allowed to leave the country. The rest of the Indian team who tested negative will be returning home.
India and Sri Lanka’s ODI series was postponed by 5 days. This was after two members of the Sri Lankan support staff tested positive for Covid-19. Earlier in England Rishabh Pant had tested COVID positive. He was isolated alongside Wriddhiman Saha, Abhimanyu Easwaran and Bharat Arun.
During the IPL 2021, too several players had tested coronavirus positive. Therefore the tournament was suspended. It will now resume in the UAE from September 19.
