The prodigious shooting talent Mehuli Ghosh settled for a silver medal in the women’s 10m air rifle shooting event in the Youth Olympic Games on Monday.
The 18-year old missed out on the gold medal after a 9.1 in the 24th shot saw her end with a silver medal with a total of 248.7. This was India’s second silver medal in shooting at the Games after Shahu Mane’s second place finish in the men’s air rifle event on Sunday.
Denmark’s Stephanie Grundsoee won the gold medal, with a total of 248.7, edging past Mehuli by just 0. 7 points.
On Monday morning, Mehuli had topped the qualifying round, scoring 628.8as she led the eight-woman finals field with a score of 104.3, which was 1.1 more than what Stephanie scored.

The 12 shot, where the elimination process for the eight finalists begin, saw German Anna Janssen make it to the second place with Marija Malic of Serbia following the three.
After the 16th shot, a difference of 0.2 separated the Indian, German, Dane and Serbian.
With China’s Wang Zeru’s elimination after the 18th shot, it was the Janssen who couldn’t secure a podium finish, scoring 9.7 in her 20th shot. Malic won the bronze medal.
With the final two shots left, Mehuli fired 10.7 in her 22nd which was 0.8 more than the Dane.
She took a 0.6 lead into the final shot but could score 9.1 with Stephanie scoring 10.6- securing for herself a gold medal while the highly-rated India had to stay content with a silver.
