You are my master and high command: Modi says in Varanasi
Prime Minister Narendra Modi reminds one of the saying ‘When in Rome, do as the Romans do’. It was evident again when the Prime Minister visited his parliamentary constituency Varanasi and launched a plethora of projects on Tuesday, day after his 68th birthday. While launching the projects, the Prime Minister also advertised the work done by his government to change the city’s face.
“You may have given me the responsibility of the prime minister but I am also required to give you an account of my work as your member of parliament…You are my master, you are my high command. So I have to give you an account for the money and time spent,” Modi said while refraining himself from making any political statement.
Modi had fought for two Lok Sabha seats in 2014 polls — Varanasi in Uttar Pradesh and Vadodara in Gujarat — and won from seats but chose to retain the Varanasi seat in India’s most populous state.
The Prime Minister landed in Varanasi on his birthday on Monday for a two-day visit and spent the evening with school goers and underprivileged children of the society.
However, on Tuesday, foundation stones were laid or projects were inaugurated worth Rs 557 crore, he said that government at the centre is determined to make Varanasi the ‘gateway to East India’ and efforts are on to make this a success.
According to Modi, efforts are being made to make Varanasi a smart city without disturbing the cultural fervour, rich history and ancient flavour of the temple city. He also mentioned that 200 projects have been cleared for the city and Rs 20,000 crore has been earmarked for cleaning up the Ganga.
“The changed face of the city can be seen by people right from the time they step down from the trains that bring them here,” the Prime Minister said.
