Yet another unfortunate incident took place in Uttar Pradesh on 8th July 2019. At least 29 passengers were killed and several injured after an Uttar Pradesh State Road Transport Corporation (UPSRTC) bus plunged between two flyovers on the Yamuna Expressway today morning. According to a report published in The Hindu, more than 50 passengers were travelling when the bus fell into the drain.
Taking to the microblogging site, India’s Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed his grief and condolences to the families of the deceased and prayed for quick recovery of those who were injured. PM Modi also said that the Uttar Pradesh government led by Yogi Adityanath is providing all possible assistance to those who were affected in the incident. 29 Dead 17 Injured After Bus Skids Off Yamuna Expressway Near Delhi
He wrote on Twitter: “Pained by the bus accident in Agra, Uttar Pradesh. Condolences to the families who have lost their loved ones. I pray that those injured recover fast. The State Government and local administration are providing all possible assistance to the affected.”
Senior Superintendent of Police (Agra) told The Hindu that the UPSRTC Janrath bus coming to Delhi from Lucknow was involved in an accident around 5 a.m. after hitting the railing on the Yamuna Expressway near milestone 161 under Etmadpur police station.
As of now, 29 people have been officially declared dead by doctors. As per the initial probe, the driver fell asleep and lost control of the vehicle. Investigations are underway to find the exact cause of the accident.
Minutes after the incident, The U.P Roadways has announced an ex gratia of Rs 5 lakh to each of the kin of the dead people.
Taking this incident seriously, UP Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has formed a committee comprising the Transport Commissioner, the Divisional Commissioner and IG, Agra, to investigate into the bus accident and submit a report within 24 hours on its cause, among other things.
