Asian and Commonwealth Games gold medal-winning wrestler Vinesh Phogat will tie the knot with her long-time boyfriend Somvir Rathee on December 13 this year, said a report in The Hindustan Times on Tuesday.
Somvir, who is also a wrestler by profession, had proposed Vinesh at the Delhi airport after the 24-year-old had returned following her stupendous performance at the 2018 Asian Games in Jakarta.
A cousin of the famous Phogat sisters – Geeta and Babita Kumari – Vinesh is the first Indian women wrestler to win a gold medal at both the Asian and Commonwealth Games.
Vinesh made their relationship public in August after a Hindi daily had controversially linked her to star Javelin thrower Neeraj Chopra. She posted of a photo of herself with Somvir to announce their relationship.
“The best decision I ever made. Glad you pinned me for life,” wrote Vinesh in an Instagram post. Somvir is also a Greco-Roman wrestler like Vinesh and hails from Jind in Haryana.
Their marriage ceremony will take place at Vinesh’s village Balali in Charkhi Dadri district. While, the wedding will take place on December 13, the ‘sangeet’ ceremony will be held a day earlier.
