Pregnant woman gives birth to twins on LTT-Vishakhapatnam Express train

A 30-year-old woman delivered twins, reportedly a girl and a boy, on Sunday morning while onboard the LTT-Visakhapatanam express train at Mumbai’s Kalyan railway station, with the help of two lady constables. The family lives in a colony near Ghausia Mosque in Ghatkopar.

According to the Central Railways, its officials received information about a woman, named Shaikh Salma Tabassum who is 30 years old, a resident of Narayan Nagar, Ghatkopar, started having labour pain while travelling with her family. The incident took place around 7:52 am.

Thereafter, on-duty Sub Inspector Nitin Gaur, along with RPF lady staff Head Constables Neelam Gupta and Surekha Kadam plunged into action and attended to the woman at Kalyan in the presence of Railway Medical Staff. Post the delivery, the lady passenger, along with her twins, was taken to Rukmanibai Hospital for further treatment and care. The mother and twins are healthy and doing well.

Another similar incident occurred in May 2018, A 22-year-old woman from Titwala delivered a baby girl while travelling in a train at Thane station early on Saturday midnight. The woman, Zeba Parveen, was on her way to a hospital in Mumbai. Parveen developed labour pain after crossing Kalwa station Railway police constables MR Pawar and Rupali Shinde along with the ‘rupee one’ clinic staffers helped Parveen deliver the baby.
