Mumbai police have arrested a woman for mercilessly beating up and allegedly robbing a four-year-old girl inside the lift of a residential building in suburban Trombay in Mumbai.
The video of beating a four-year-old girl is being widely shared on social media and it was aired by some news websites.
The accused has been identified as Rizwana Begum, was arrested by the Mumbai police on the same day under section 394 (voluntarily causing hurt while committing robbery) of Indian Penal Code (IPC), a senior police official told NDTV.
In the 2-minute-long video, the woman can be seen mercilessly thrashing the girl who is crying in pain.
A Twitter user @PohtoleWarriors posted the video and tagged Mumbai police seeking action against the accused and wrote, “HORIBLE #crime! Rizwana Begum the woman in the CCTV footage brutally assaulted a 4-yr-old girl in the lift. She later sat on the girl & prevented people to rescue her too. @MumbaiPolice has arrested her. Hope she’s dealt severely for this inhuman behaviour. @ChemburChapters”
“Rizwana Begum allegedly snatched away the girl’s ear-rings,” the official said. Police have recovered stolen things from Begum after she was arrested. Further investigation is underway.
