Days after her bail plea was rejected, Indrani Mukerjea again argued in a special CBI court for her bail on Tuesday. During the hearing, she asked the court “Will CBI take responsibility if I die?” Mukerjea has been accused of murdering her daughter Sheena Bora and currently lodged in Byculla jail. Her previous bail pleas on medical grounds was rejected.

While opposing her bail application, CBI had said that there was none to take care of her at home as she doesn’t have a family. “Prima facie it appears that her (Indrani’s) daughter Vidhie is in the UK. Indrani and her husband, accused number 4 Peter Mukerjea, have filed a divorce petition before the honourable family court in Mumbai, which means no family members are available to look after her if released on bail,” the CBI had said while replying to her bail plea a week ago. CBI was represented by special public prosecutor Bharat Badami.
Earlier this month, Mukerjea had submitted a handwritten application and claimed that she could suffer brain stroke “anytime”. She also argued that her bail should be granted so that she can be at home and can have access to specialist in minutes.
CBI, it seems, is hell-bent on opposing her bail. The central agency claimed that she is being provided adequate facilities both at JJ Hospital and the Byculla jail, where she is currently lodged. It also said that if required she can be produced before the JJ Hospital medical board or the All India Institute of Medical Science (AIIMS) in the national capital. CBI said that her bail plea is “without merits” and it’s a deliberate attempt to delay the trial.
Mukerjea is accused of murdering her daughter Sheena Bora on 24 April 2012. She along with her ex-husband Sanjeev Khanna were arrested and then the CBI also arrested media baron and Indrani’s husband Peter Mukerjea.
