It is always pleasant to see a struggling team resurrect from a tedious situation. Very seldom Australians find themselves in such a position and at present they are the potential underdogs. Tours with top sides like England hasn’t helped them regain their lost reputation on the International circuit anyway.
So what alterations can be done to get better results?
It has been a mixed bag for Australia since they have arrived in England for the five match ODI series. They began with a poor batting display managing a mere 214 runs on a good batting track. Bowlers did a decent job but lacked viciousness. Meanwhile the second ODI was the other way round. Batters almost did their job but bowlers leaked a lot of runs.
Aaron Finch is a prolific opening batsman and he should continue with this role. He may have performed well in the middle order in practice matches but in games that matter the most he has always done well upfront.
Similarly, Travis Head would be a better option in the middle order adding depth and quality to the side. They are also short of a quality spinner and drafting in Adam Zampa would have helped the visitors. Ashton Agar is an average all rounder and he ain’t any competition to the likes of Moeen Ali and Adil Rashid.
Alex Carry is a good batsman who can add great value and stability in the side. Even he deserves a chance in the side if situations demand.
