Virat Kohli needs to learn more about captaincy from MS Dhoni: Shahid Afridi

Although former Pakistan captain Shahid Afridi is a huge fan of Virat Kohli, he feels that the 30-year old has a lot left to learn in terms of captaincy.

Although former Pakistan captain Shahid Afridi is a huge fan of Virat Kohli, he feels that the 30-year old has a lot left to learn when it comes to captaincy from his predecessor in MS Dhoni.

Afridi, in an exclusive conversation with NDTV said, “As a player Virat Kohli is my favourite but he needs to work on his captaincy because for me Dhoni is still the best.”

India currently in their tour of Australia where they lost the opening T20I by just four runs in Brisbane. Afridi, a hard-hitting batsman himself, feels that the batting order of the Indian team should come good if they have any chances of upstaging the Aussies in their own den.

“Australian pitches are not the same any more the ball bounces but it is easier to hit runs so India can win if they bat well in Australia,” he said.

Veteran Pakistan cricketer Ramiz Raja added that it was getting used to the conditions Down Under.

“It is all about adjusting to the conditions. Batsmen will get used to the extra bit of bounce and bowlers will have to adjust if they have to win,” he opined.

Before boarding the flight to Australia, Kohli had said that he is looking for a series without any verbal barrage but Raja felt that the Indian captain should be himself.

“It is very difficult to alter your DNA in a space of 20-25 days. Kohli should be himself and play his natural game. Everything is fine if he plays cricket within the parameters,” he reckoned.
