Virat Kohli became the fastest to reach 3000 ODI runs as captain adding another feather to his illustrious cricketing career.
The Indian skipper took just 49 innings to reach the landmark, overtaking the previous record holder AB De Villiers, who took 60 innings to complete 3000 runs.
MS Dhoni, who handed the captain’s baton to Kohli achieved the milestone in 70 innings. Former Indian skipper Sourav Ganguly (74 innings), Greame Smith and Misbah-ul-Haq (83 innings), Sanath Jayasuriya and Ricky Ponting (84 innings) are the other name in the prestigious list.

Kohli who walked out to bat after the cheap dismissal of opener Rohit Sharma looked in tremendous form as he unleashed a flurry of shots, adding 71 for the second wicket with Shikhar Dhawan who was run out for 44.
The 29-year-old however continued his domination racing to his 48th ODI fifty before bring eventually foxed by a Adil Rashid delivery on 72.
In the process, Kohli also went past the 700-run mark in 2018 in just nine One-Day internationals. Jonny Bairstow, Jason Roy and Joe Root of England are the other three batsman to cross the mark. All of them have however played more matches than the Indian captain.
Kohli also is the fastest batsman to reach 1000 and 2000 ODI runs as captain.

This England tour continues to be special for him and just recently he became the fastest player (56 innings) to reach 2000 runs in T20 internationals. He achieved the milestone during the first T20 match against England earlier this month.
New Zeland pair of Martin Guptil (2271 runs) and Brendon McCullum (2140 runs) are the other two batsman to have achieved the feat.
