India vs West Indies: Virat Kohli on verge of breaking yet another batting record
India skipper Virat Kohli is on the verge of breaking yet another batting record ahead of the five-match ODI series against West Indies, scheduled to start on October 21 in Guwahati, Assam.
Kohli, who is ranked as the NO.1 batsman in both the Test and ODI rankings, has so far scored 1387 runs against the West Indies in just 27 ODIs. He has an average of 60.30 with four hundred and nine half-centuries against the Caribbean nation.
Such has been the tempo of Kohli’s run-scoring that he stands just 187 runs away from becoming the all-time highest Indian ODI getter against the West Indies. The record currently belongs to maestro Sachin Tendulkar.
Master Blaster played the West Indies 39 times in ODI format in his long illustrious career that spanned over two decades. He scored 1573 runs at an average of 52.73 that included four centuries and 11 fifties.
The current Indian skipper is second in the list of the highest run-scorer against the Island nation after Tendulkar and is followed by another legend Rahul Dravid at third and former Indian captains Sourav Ganguly and Mohammad Azharuddin, who complete the top-five.
Dravid scored 1348 runs 40 matches with three hundred and eight half-centuries to his name and averages 42.12. Ganguly scored 1142 runs and played the same number of One-Day matches as Kohli.
Kohli along with Tendulkar, Dravid and Ganguly are also the only four Indian batsmen to have scored more than 1000 runs against the West Indies.

With the five-matches ODI series yet to start, Kohli looks well set to not just add the 187 runs more, which he needs to become the highest Indian run-scorer against the West Indies, but also add more runs to his tally.
Azharuddin (998 runs in 43 matches), Yuvraj Singh (978 runs in 31 matches) and MS Dhoni (899 runs in 33 ODI matches) are the other top run scorers against the West Indies.
The first ODI will be played in Guwahati, while the second will be played in Visakhapatnam. The third, fourth and fifth matches are scheduled to be played in Pune, Mumbai and Thiruvananthapuram.
