Indian captain Virat Kohli has been in phenomenal form in the ongoing Test series against England and has been the mainstay of the Indian batting in all the four Test matches so far, having scored 544 runs at an average of 68.00. The 29-year old fought his demons of 2014 where he had a torrid time with the bat and has bounced back in style, with two hundreds and three fifty-plus scores.

However, Greg Chappell, who was once the coach of the Indian team had words of praise for the Indian captain and at the same time added that the best of him is yet to come.

As quoted by icc-cricket.com, Chappell said, “Kohli, as well as having great physical talent, has the mental capacity and the emotional capacity to deal with what it takes to be successful in that really harsh environment. I don’t know that there are many with more will to succeed than Virat. He has a real desire. Something’s driving him that is beyond what most people are capable of. I think we still haven’t seen the best of him.”

In 2014, the right-hander could just accumulate 134 runs in five Test matches played and this made everyone doubt his batting skills in English conditions. But the fact that he tops the list of the highest run-scorers in the Test series so far speaks volumes for itself.

When asked about Kohli’s performances, Chappell pointed out the partnership between the skipper and his deputy being one of the best he has seen.

“What he has done in England on this tour has been quite exceptional. A lot of people doubted that he could manage in those conditions. I am assuming that he didn’t doubt it, or if he did doubt it, he was determined to overcome it. His batting on this tour has been very outstanding. The innings between him and (Ajinkya) Rahane in the first innings of the Trent Bridge Test when they were three down for not many was quite a performance. He has probably exceeded what anyone would have expected,” added Chappell.
