Indian captain Virat Kohli reinstated his stature as one of the best in the world around as he surpassed the 6000-run mark in Test cricket while batting at the Ageas Bowl against England during the fourth Test match on Friday.
The 29-year old, who has been one of the best batsmen in the ongoing series thus becomes the ninth fastest in Test history to do so, after he achieved the feat in his 119th innings. He thus becomes the second fastest Indian after the iconic Sunil Gavaskar to score 6000 runs in Test cricket.
The fastest to reach the landmark is still the legendary Sir Donald Bradman, who had taken just 68 innings to achieve this milestone.
Former Australian skipper Steve Smith, who was handed a ban earlier this year jointly hold the second position in the list along with West Indian great Sir Gary Sobers, who too crossed the 6000-run mark in Test cricket in 111 innings.
En route to his milestone, Kohli overtook stalwarts like Sachin Tendulkar and Vivian Richards who completed 6000 Test runs in 120 innings.
The right-handed Kohli has been in great form in the ongoing Test series, amassing 486 runs in the seven innings he has played so far. The swashbuckling middle-order batsman has already scored above 2000 runs in T20 Internationals and is towards the 10,000-run mark in ODIs.
