South actor, Vijay Sethupathi has been making headlines off late, but for few wrong reasons. After signing the upcoming sports drama,which is based on real-life story of former cricket legend, Muttiah Muralitharan, he has been making quite a negative buzz on social media. In a latest development, the actor reveals that he has opted out of the project on the former sportsman’s request. The ace actor has also shared his statement on social media.
When the makers had released ‘800 motion poster, Twitterati was seen trending #ShameOnVijaySethupathi. The Sri Lankan outfits on the other side was seen opposing Sethupathi’s casting as the lead in the cricket drama. Muralidaran said he had hoped his biopic will only inspire a lot of youngsters but never did he expect it would stir up a controversy. And thus, he requested Vijay to opt out of the project. The actor took to his Twitter handle and shared the statement of the former cricketer.
“I am releasing this statement since there is a lot of controversy in Tamil Nadu around my biopic 800. I am aware of the flak Vijay Sethuapthi has been receiving for signing my biopic. There are people who have a wrong understanding of my views who are behind Vijay Sethupathi. I don’t want one of the best actors in Tamil Nadu to go through this. Also, fearing the consequences Vijay Sethupathi could face for signing the film in future, I request him to opt out of the film,” read the statement.
