Veteran stage and screen actor Vijay Chavan, best known for his comic roles, passed away today morning in Fortis Hospital, Mulund at the age of 63. He was battling a prolonged lung disease.
He was admitted to the hospital after his condition deteriorated. “He was admitted to the Fortis Hospital in Mulund since the last four-five days as his health had started deteriorating. He passed away today morning at about 5,” says a report by NDTV.
Vijay Chavan will always be known for his contribution in Marathi films. He has won several awards including the V Shantaram Lifetime Achievement Award in 2018 and has acted in over 350 Marathi films. ‘Moru Chi Mavshi’ is one of his famous plays in which he was playing the role of a woman.
Chavan was known for his comic roles, especially the one he played in ‘Jatra’, ‘Zapatlela’, ‘Pachadlele’, ‘Mumbaicha Dabewala’, and ‘Shrimanta Damodar Panta’ among others. Other films of the actor are Jigar (1998), Zabardast (2007), Munna Bhai SSC (2005) and Aga Bai Arrecha(2004).
Fellow actor Ajinkya Deo took to Twitter to post his condolences. In a tweet he said, “A friend and a co actor Vijay chavan passed away this morning after a prolonged battle with an ailment a very fine actor well known for his Moruchi maushi character a super human being a fun person marathi films has lost a maushi deeply saddened RIP.”
