Veteran Congress Leader Ahmed Patel Passes Away At 71 After Battling Covid
Senior Congress leader and Rajya Sabha member of Parliament Ahmed Patel passed away in the early hours of November 25. He was 71 years old. The sad news was shared by his son Faisal Patel, on social media.

Patel was a close aide of Sonia Gandhi and Treasurer of the Indian National Congress. He had tested positive for COVID-19 on 1 October. Patel was admitted to the Intensive Care Unit of Medanta Hospital in Gurugram on 15 November. His son Faisal said his father had died after his health “worsened further due to multiple organ failure”.
Mourning the death of Mr Patel, Congress chief Sonia Gandhi tweeted, “I have lost a colleague, whose entire life was dedicated to the Congress party.” .
PM Narendra Modi too consoled the demise of the veteran leader due to COVID-19 complications. He tweeted,
Saddened by the demise of Ahmed Patel Ji. He spent years in public life, serving society. Known for his sharp mind, his role in strengthening the Congress Party would always be remembered. Spoke to his son Faisal and expressed condolences. May Ahmed Bhai’s soul rest in peace.

Patel was one of the leaders credited for Congress-led United Progressive Alliance (UPA)’s general election wins in 2004 and 2009. He also served as the political secretary to Congress interim president Sonia Gandhi.
Patel is survived by his wife Memoona and two children Faisal and Mumtaz.
