Veteran actress Shashikala has left for her heavenly abode on April 4, 2021. Shashikala Om Prakash Saigal (née Jawalkar) passed away at her residence on Sunday. The actress was 88 years old. However, the family is yet to release an official statement.
The shocking news of her demise was shared by writer Kiran Kotrial on her Facebook account. She paid tribute to the late actress.
Congress leader Praful Patel took to social media to mourn the demise of the actress. He expressed his grief and offered condolences to her family on Twitter.

Born in Solapur, Maharashtra Shashikala started working at an early age to support her parents. The Padma Shri recipient has performed supporting roles in more than 100 films She was also a part of TV shows like Sonpari and Jeena Isi ka Naam hai. In recent years, she was seen in movies like Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham, Mujhse Shaadi Karogi and Chori Chori.
Shashikala was bestowed with the Padma Shri Award in 2007 for her contribution to Indian cinema. The actress received eight nominations in the category of Best Supporting Actress at the Filmfare Awards. She won the award twice for ‘Aarti’ (1962) and ‘Gumrah’ (1963).
