Valve has announced a new Half-Life game called Half-Life: Alyx. This announcement comes almost three years after the company announced that it would create three full-length VR games for its players. A tweet sent out by Valve announces Half-Life: Alyx as their flagship VR game. According to Valve, more details will be forthcoming this Thursday at 10 am Pacific time. The title could be referencing to Half-Life 2 protagonist Gordan Freeman’s friend Alyx Vance. There aren’t many details regarding the game apart from this.
Prior to this, Valve has never completed any proposed trilogies. Half-Life and Half-Life 2 never got the third game in the series despite being universally loved by the fans. Valve did create Half-Life: Episode 1 and Half-Life: Episode 2 instead. There were also additional franchises created by the company which included Team Fortress 2, Portal 2, Left 4 Dead 2, and Dota 2.
The Half-Life games have always pioneered new gaming technology in their gameplay. Half-Life 2 intrigued Thus, it is no surprise that Half-Life: Alyx would come bearing new technological advancements in gaming. This game could also be tied specifically to their own VR headset to start off the VR flagship. In any case, this game would be an opportunity for the company to show off the Valve Index which is arguably the highest grade VR headset to date. It has controllers that let players grip different objects in virtual reality with individual fingers.
There is a rumor circulating that the game might have a March 2020 release date. Ars Technica also claims that this game might be a Half-Life 2 prequel. More details regarding the game will be unveiled on Thursday 10 am Pacific time as mentioned by Valve.
