Uttar Pradesh Police was left with no option but to mimic a sound of a gunshot to scare a group of criminals after their revolver jammed during an encounter in Samphal district, ANI reported. The incident took place almost 370 kilometres from state capital Lucknow.
A video was posted by the news agency ANI, in which an assistant superintendent of Police can be seen shouting thain -thain, Maaro and Ghero. While another policeman who wore plain cloth is seen making an efforts to open the fire as the cartridges in the revolver got stuck.
Speaking to news agency, the ASP said, he wanted to create “mental pressure” on the criminals. The team has managed to arrest one of the criminals after shooting him in his leg. A policeman was also injured in the encounter.
He added, “This was due to a technical glitch of the weapon that the officer was carrying, such things are not new and may happen at times. With regard to the cop shouting, it is a tact to deal with criminals mentally and create pressure on them to surrender.”
According to the report, during the course of the encounter, one police personnel was reportedly injured, while a criminal was also arrested after being shot. The criminal was wanted in a number of robbery cases and was carrying an award of Rs. 25,0000 on his head.
