A 22-year-old man was allegedly set on fire by his girlfriend’s father and relative in Uttar Pradesh’s Etah district. The girl’s family allegedly tied him to a cot and set him ablaze in a locked room. The victim identified as Narendra Sakya — a truck driver by profession.
Narendra Sakya received 90 percent burn injuries in the brutal act against him which took place on Wednesday afternoon.
According to The Times of India report, “Narendra Sakya was in a relationship with Rashmi. Since both of them were adults and wanted to marry. But, girl’s parents were against the relationship. On Wednesday, Rashmi’s father called Narendra to Geva Asadulahpur village and tied him a cot. He along with his relatives Dayaram and Umesh poured kerosene on him and set him on fire.”
Hearing the scream of the victim, a local raised an alarm and called the police. “A youth was set ablaze by his girlfriend’s relatives in Etah’s Aliganj. Three people locked him in a room and set him on fire. We have arrested two of the accused. He is seriously injured and undergoing treatment,” a senior police officer Sanjay Kumar told news agency ANI.
A report also claims that Narendra and Rashmi were missing for the last few days and the family of the girl was upset over it. The girl’s father suspecting that Narendra eloped with his daughter.
“We have arrested Ramnaresh and Dayaram, while Umesh is at large. Narendra has been admitted to a hospital. We have booked the accused under sections 307 (attempt to murder), 342 (wrongful confinement), 326 (voluntarily causing grievous hurt by dangerous weapons 326 (voluntarily causing grievous hurt by dangerous weapons or means) of the IPC,” Sanjay Kumar, additional superintendent of police, Etah told TOI.
