United States President Donald Trump escorted from news briefing by Secret Service after shooting outside White House
The U.S. Secret Service escorted President Donald Trump out of the White House during a press briefing. The President was just minuted into the briefing when he was escorted out of the room. Trump was ushered out and the black-clad secret service agents with automatic rifles rushed across the lawn north of the White House. The reason being a shooting outside the White House.
The President returned after several minutes to the media room. He announced that someone had been shot outside the White House grounds by law enforcement. The President added that the suspect who had been armed is taken to the hospital.
Donald Trump said, “It was a shooting outside of the White House,” Trump said. “It seems to be very well under control. … But there was an actual shooting, and somebody has been taken to the hospital. I don’t know the condition of the person.”
Asked if he was shaken by the incident, the president asked reporters: “I don’t know. Do I seem rattled?”
Nobody else was wounded in the shooting, Trump said. He also praised the Secret Service response and said the agency would have more details on the event later.
The Secret Service said in a tweet “the investigation into a USSS officer involved shooting is ongoing. A male subject and a USSS officer were both transported to a local hospital. At no time during this incident was the White House complex breached or were any protectees in danger.”
