US Presidential candidate Joe Biden on Tuesday picked California Senator Kamala Harris as his vice-presidential running mate for the 2020 Presidential election. The Democratic nominee made history by selecting Kamala whose mother is an Indian and father a Jamaican.
Joe Biden tweeted,
Kamala will be the first black and Indian American to compete on a major party’s presidential ticket.
@JoeBiden can unify the American people because he’s spent his life fighting for us. And as president, he’ll build an America that lives up to our ideals. I’m honored to join him as our party’s nominee for Vice President, and do what it takes to make him our Commander-in-Chief,” Harris tweeted shortly after Biden announced his pick on social media.
Former President Barack Obama hailed Biden’s move and tweeted,
Reacting to the news President Donald Trump called Kamala Harris the “most horrible” member of the US Senate. He added that he was “surprised” Joe Biden had picked her as his vice-presidential candidate.
