Cases of rapes in India are rising at a tremendous speed. In a recent incident, a deputy commissioner of Uttar Pradesh Commercial Tax department was arrested for allegedly raping another colleague in Bhopal on Monday. Pankaj Kumar Singh, accused, was nabbed from a premier hotel and is being questioned.
The incident took place in Bhopal’s Kamala Nagar area, where the woman officer of the UP government was staying for a couple of days. She was there to attend the batch reunion function of a premier girls’ school in Bhopal, which is her alma-mater.
According to the complaint filed by the woman (41), she was supposed to leave Bhopal after the event on August 5. However, Singh (45), posted in Noida, forced her to stay for one more day and raped her on Sunday-Monday intervening night inside the hotel room. She also alleged that she was kept hostage and threatened by Singh that her daughter would be raped and killed, if she raises an alarm.
Further she adds that by 3 am, she succeeded in fleeing from the hotel room and contacted police via emergency response service of MP police. Police arrived at the spot and arrested Singh.
As per reports, police have lodged a case under Sections 376 (rape), 294 (abusive conduct) and 323 (voluntarily causing hurt) against Singh. ASP (Bhopal Zone 1) Dharamveer Singh said, “The accused has been arrested and taken in police custody for interrogation. He will be produced before the court on Tuesday.”
