A Delhi court awarded life imprisonment to former BJP MLA Kuldeep Singh Sengar on Friday for raping a woman in Unnao, Uttar Pradesh, in 2017. The four-time expelled BJP MLA will remain in jail for the remainder of his life. The ex-MLA has also imposed a fine of Rs. 25 Lakh by district judge Dharmesh Sharma. He was also directed to pay the rape survivor a compensation of Rs. 10 lakhs.
Sengar was convicted by the Delhi court for the rape of the minor under the Indian Penal Code and the POSCO Act.
The case was one of the five in which a Delhi court on Monday convicted Sengar. It was for the rape of a woman in Unnao in 2017 when she was a minor. The other four related cases are framing the rape survivor’s father in an illegal firearms case and his death in judicial custody, a conspiracy of Sengar with others in an accident case of the rape survivor and a separate case of her alleged gang rape by three others. These were transferred from Uttar Pradesh to the national capital.

Co-accused Shashi Singh, who allegedly took the minor to Sengar was let off by the court on the benefit of the doubt.
