Unnao rape case: Yunus Khan did not die due to poison, says forensic report
The death of sole witness of the Unnao rape case — Yonus Khan — on August 18, allegedly under mysterious circumstances, was not due to poison, confirmed forensic science laboratory (FSL) report. The 32-year-old youth’s body was buried on August 25 without the permission of the probing agency, Central Bureau of Investigation.

Briefing about the reason of death, Additional Director General of Police (Law and Order) Anand Kumar said, as reported by The Hindu, “The FSL report of Yunus has been received by SP Unnao. No poison has been detected in the viscera which was sent for chemical analysis.” He further added, “This should end all speculation and settle the cause of his death beyond doubt.”
Earlier, after Yunus’s body was exhumed, kin alleged a foul play in the investigation. Bereaved family members wanted to meet Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath. When refused, they tried to immolate themselves in front of the CM’s residence and were detained.
After the arrest, senior officer Vijay Pandey of the Gautampalli Police Station had said, “The family of Yunus had come to Lucknow and was adamant about meeting the Chief Minister and getting inside his residence. They have been taken to the Hazratganj Police Station so that their grievances can be heard and the district concerned be informed about it.”
However, justifying the post-mortem report, Additional District Magistrate of Unnao, BN Yadav, had then said, “The body of Yunus was exhumed; it was sent for post-mortem examination. The body was exhumed in the presence of Qazi sahab.”
Yunus was the sole witness of the Unnao rape case, in which a minor who was allegedly raped by BJP MLA Kuldeep Singh Sengar. Her father was beaten to death, allegedly by Senger’s brother and others and CBI is probing the matter. Congress president Rahul Gandhi too had condemned the death of Yunus as “mysterious” and his burial “hurried”.
