Indian sprint sensation Hima Das has been appointed as the country’s first youth ambassador of The United Nations International Children’s Emergency Fund, commonly known as the UNICEF.
This was made public on the official Twitter account of UNICEF India on Wednesday.
“Meet our Youth Ambassador, Hima Das! The Asian Games medallist is @UNICEF India’s first ever youth ambassador as part of #WorldChildrensDay celebration. #GoBlue,” the tweet read.
Privileged and honoured to be a given this honour, Das said,” I’m honoured to be chosen as Unicef India’s Youth Ambassador, and I hope I will be able to inspire more children to follow their dreams.”
Belonging to the Nagaon district in Assam, Das made a name for herself when she became the first Indian to win the gold medal at the IAAF World Junior Championships. Her supreme form on the track continued as she ended up winning the gold medal at the Women’s 4x400m Relay event at the Asian Games this year in Indonesia.
Das also bagged the silver by clocking 50.59 seconds in the Women’s 400m Race event.
