Real Madrid recovered from a -3 shocking defeat at the hands of Eibar to return to beat AS Roma 2-0 in the Champions League.
This win further strengthened Real Madrid’s place at the top of Group G. A defensive error from Roma defender Federico Fazio against the run of play after the break.
The holders further ensured that winger Lucas Vazquez ensured that his side clinched a win after he tapped in an assist from Karim Benzema after he received a cross from Luka Modric.
But Roma too went through to the last 16 stage after Viktoria Plzen clinched a 2-1 win over CSKA Moscow.
This is for the 15th time that Real Madrid has made it through to the last 16 stage.
This was Roma’s fourth defeat in their last four encounters against Real Madrid.
City, Lyon play out 2-2 draw
Premier League table-toppers Manchester City played out a 2-2 draw against Ligue 1’s Lyon in Group F of the Champions League on Tuesday.
The French side took the lead twice in the second-half but City fought back twice to win a point. Maxwel Cornet gave his side the lead before City defender Aymeric Laporte equalised for the English champions.
But Cornet once again scored to hand Lyon the lead for the second time but Manchester City’s talismanic striker Sergio Aguero headed one into the net to make sure that his side cemented the top spot in Group F.

“We are so delighted and so happy..It is a big compliment for the team.
“We played one of toughest teams we’ve ever faced. They are physical, strong, they counter-attack incredible.
“We reacted after 1-0 and 2-1 and we are in the final stages. This was our target.
“Now we must try to get a point to finish first in the group stage, but it is so important to go through,” said City boss Pep Guardiola, as quoted by BBC.
Bayern Munich storm past Benfica
German champions Bayern Munich recorded a thumping 5-1 win over Benfica with Polish striker Robert Lewandowski scored his 50th goal in the Champions League. Both Lewandowski and Arjen Robben scored a brace each with Frank Ribery scored one in the rout. The Bundesliga side went through to the last 16 side. Ajax was other side in Group E to make the last 16.
