On Wednesday morning, legendary actor Dilip Kumar passed away at the PD Hinduja Hospital in Mumbai’s Khar after prolonged illness. The news was shared by Kumar’s family friend Faisal Farooqui on the veteran actor’s Twitter handle. “With a heavy heart and profound grief, I announce the passing away of our beloved Dilip Saab, few minutes ago. We are from God and to Him we return.”
“He passed away due to prolonged illness at 7.30 am,” Dr Jalil Parkar, who had been treating Kumar, told PTI. He is now survived by his wife, veteran actor Saira Banu.
Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray and his son Aditya Thackeray arrived at late Dilip Kumar’s house to pay their last respects to the late actor.

Thackeray was among the many politicians who mourned the loss of Dilip Sahab on Twitter, “Enriching the Indian film industry, a shining star emerged from the silver lining. Dilip Kumar, who plays the role of Ajramar, will remain in the hearts of film lovers and fans forever. A heartfelt tribute to veteran actor Padma Vibhushan Dilip Kumar,” the CM wrote in Marathi.
After Uddhav and Aditya Thackeray, NCP’s Sharad Pawar was also seen arriving in his black SUV along with Maharashtra Cabinet Minister Nawab Malik.
The late actor’s mortal remains were taken to his Bandra residence. He will be laid to rest at 5 pm today at the Juhu Qabrastan in Santacruz, Mumbai. Dilip Kumar’s funeral will be accorded a state funeral, CM Uddhav Thackeray tweeted: “Chief Minister Uddhav Balasaheb Thackeray has instructed that the funeral of veteran actor Dilip Kumar will be held in a state funeral.”
