The Typhoon Vongfong struck the eastern Samar at around noontime on Thursday i.e May 14. It is the first named storm of the 2020 season in the West Pacific. The Vongfong packed winds of at least 115 mph with an intensity equivalent of a category 3 hurricane evacuated tens of thousands of people, as per the reports. And not just that, the Vongfong is expected to gradually turn northwest, indicating to weaken the situation even more.
As per the local reports from the Philippines, at least 200,000 people live in coastal areas near the area of Samar affected. According to the state-run Philippines News Agency, as of 8 a.m. Friday Philippines time, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said the typhoon was last tracked over the coastal waters of the city of San Andres moving northwest at 9 miles per hour.
