Micro-blogging site, Twitter began testing its new set of features. It is to enhance the privacy of user content on the platform in a gentle way. Twitter announced about testing new features as ‘Soft Block’ option, wherein users can pick and chose to remove their followers from the handle without completely blocking them. The user need not actually block unwanted users, they can choose to remove unwanted handles from their list of followers.
Twitter focuses on giving users a gentle way of keeping unwanted people away from their timeline feed. This new remove follower feature is more of a remote unfollow button. On Wednesday, Twitter made an official announcement about this test with a cryptic note. It read, “We’re making it easier to be the curator of your own followers list. Now testing on web: remove a follower without blocking them. To remove a follower, go to your profile and click ‘Followers’, then click the three dot icon and select ‘Remove this follower.”
As Twitter is yet to officially roll out this ‘Soft Block’ feature, there are few confusions among users. It is believed that users won’t get to know if somebody removes them from other users follower list. However the feed on the user (who removed followers) can still be viewed publicly. It is not clear, if the removed user can see the timeline posts from the users who uses ‘Soft Block’ option.
