Coffee is a fundamental part of food culture around the world. Over the past few years, the coffee industry has changed drastically for a variety of reasons. A growing trend in the coffee industry is now offering a greater variety of coffee drinks and flavored beverages. The ever-evolving coffee-drinking audience can now pick from a varied range of drinks you can pick. They range from iced beverages to coffee shakes to classic options.
Here are some specialty coffee drinks that are going to be popular in 2020:
1 Dalgona:
Ingredients:
- 2 tbsp instant coffee or espresso powder
- 2 tbsp sugar
- 2 tbsp very hot water
- 400ml/14fl oz milk
Method:
1. Add the instant coffee, sugar, and hot water to a medium mixing bowl. Using an electric hand-held mixer, whip the coffee mixture until it is light brown, fluffy, and holds stiff peaks when the whisk is removed.
2. Heat the milk, if desired, and divide between two heatproof glasses. Spoon dollops of the frothed coffee mixture on top and smooth out with a spoon. Serve.
3. The coffee is slightly bitter but has a sweet aftertaste. Its main appeal is the velvety and soft texture.

2. Carajillo(Spanish Coffee):
A carajillo is a Spanish coffee drink to which a hard liquor is added, often brandy, whiskey, or anisette.
Ingredients:
- ½ cup brewed espresso or decaf espresso
- 1 ½ to 2 ounces Licor 43
- 8 ice cubes
Method:
1. In an Old Fashioned glass, pour 1 ½ to 2 ounces of Licor 43 over ice.
2. Slowly pour freshly brewed espresso over the top.
3. To float the espresso for a layered look, pour gently over the back of a spoon and serve with a cocktail stirrer.
3. Turkish Coffee:
Arabic coffee beans are finely ground and used for coffee making. The ground coffee is combined with water and sugar (optional) in a special coffee pot called cezve or ibrik and simmered over the lowest heat or traditionally on the hot sand. It is served in traditional small Turkish coffee cups with a lot of foams on the top. Turkish Coffee is always served with a glass of water.
Ingredients
- 2 Turkish coffee cups water
- 4 teaspoons Turkish coffee
- 1 cube sugar
Method:
1. Put water, coffee, and sugar in the coffee pot together. Place it on the lowest heat and stir the coffee continuously to have a lot of foams until it boils. Be careful not to overflow it.
2. Transfer the coffee foam into the Turkish coffee cups evenly using a teaspoon. Put it back over the heat and reheat the remaining coffee until it boils and pour it into the coffee cups.
3. Serve it with a glass of water on the side.
4. Al-Qahwa(Saudi Arabia):
Qahwa is a traditional Arabic Coffee Recipe made from green coffee beans and cardamom.
Ingredients
- 1 tablespoon Green Coffee beans, lightly roasted and coarsely ground
- 1 tablespoon Cardamom (Elaichi) Pods/Seeds, crushed
- 2.5 cups Water
- 1/8 teaspoon Saffron strands, optional
- 1 teaspoon Rosewater, optional
Method:
1. To make this traditional Qahwa/ Qahwah – Arabic Coffee Recipe, bring water to boil in a saucepan. When it boils, add ground coffee.
2. After 10 minutes of boiling, add cloves, crushed cardamom, and stir once and boil for another 4 to 5 minutes.
3. Now switch off the flame, cover, and let coffee grounds settle at the bottom for a minute. Do not stir at this time since the liquid needs to settle.
4. Add the rose water and saffron if you are using them.
5.Strain and pour the steaming coffee into the flask or teapot.
Qahwa is ready to be served hot in dallah/kulhar. Serve with dates during evenings and Enjoy!!
5. Irish Coffee:
Irish coffee consists of hot coffee, Irish whiskey, and sugar, stirred, and topped with cream.
Ingredients:
- 1 tablespoon coffee
- 1/2 cup fresh cream
- 1 dash nutmeg powder
- 3 tablespoon irish whiskey
- 1 tablespoon caster sugar
Method
- Put a pan over medium heat and heat water in it.
- Bring water to a boil and later remove it from heat.
- Add the coffee granules in the hot water and stir them well till dissolved.
- Add the Irish whiskey and caster sugar in the prepared coffee and stir them all together well.
- Pour it into the serving glass.
- Garnish it with dollops of cream (direct or whipped) and a sprinkle of nutmeg powder.
- Serve immediately with cookies.
6. Buna(Ethiopian Coffee):
Ingredients
- Gebena (An Ethiopian pot for brewing coffee)
- 6 Ceni (Ethiopian small cups)
- 2 cups of water
- Ethiopian Coffee roasting pan (can order online or can just use a regular pan)
- Coffee grinder
- 2/3 cup of green beans (Ethiopian Yirgacheffe used here)
- 1 tablespoon of salt
- 1 tablespoon of sugar
Method
- Take the green coffee beans roast them.
- The roasted beans are then ground to a fine powder.
- Pour 2 cups of water into the gebena.
- Add the ground coffee into the Gebena.
- Brew it for ten minutes on medium heat.
- Remove from heat and let it rest till the coffee sediment settles at the bottom.
- Pour the clear liquid in Ceni and serve them with sugar or salt as per taste.
7. Bulletproof Coffee:
Bulletproof coffee is a high-calorie coffee drink intended to replace breakfast. It consists of coffee, grass-fed, unsalted butter, and MCT oil mixed in a blender. This recipe is popular in the keto communities and is said to help with weight loss.
Ingredients
- 12 ounces Bulletproof Brewed Coffee hot,
- 2 tablespoons Ghee
- 1 tablespoon MCT oil
- pinch pink salt optional
- 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon optional
Method
1. Place all ingredients in a blender and blend until fully combined and smooth.
