Tokyo Olympics: Indian Women’s Hockey Team Loses 3-4 to Great Britain but Win Hearts

The Indian women hockey team have done the nation proud with a valiant effort at the Tokyo Olympics. The Rani Rampal lead team put up a brave fight as they faced Great Britain for the Bronze medal. But sadly, lost the game 3-4 to Great Britain at the Oi Hockey Stadium in Tokyo.

The Indian women created history by entering the semifinals of the Games for the first time. But the maiden Olympic medal remained out of bounds for them.

PM Modi tweeted, “Proud of this team. We’ll always remember the great performance of our Women’s Hockey Team at #Tokyo2020. We narrowly missed a medal in Women’s Hockey but this team reflects spirit of New India. Their success at #Tokyo2020 will motivate more daughters to take up Hockey.”

India scored three goals in a span of five minutes through Gurjit Kaur, and Vandana Katariya. But the Britishers found the net four times through Elena Rayer, Sarah Robertson, skipper Hollie Pearne-Webb and Grace Baldson to emerge winners. Goalkeeper Savita Punia was also brilliant but the team missed the bronze medal by a whisker.
