Popular Bengali actress turned Trinamool Congress (TMC) Nusrat Jahan has been in news for her separation rumours from her husband Nikhil Jain. She is once again hitting headlines for her shocking statement regarding her marriage with Nikhil. Nusrat said that her marriage with businessman Nikhil Jain not valid in India as it happened according to Turkish laws. Therefore there is no question of a divorce.
She stated, “Being on foreign land, as per Turkish Marriage Regulation, the ceremony is invalid. Moreover, since it was an interfaith marriage, it requires validation under Special Marriage Act in India, which did not happen. As per the court of law, it is not a Marriage, but a relationship or a live-in relationship. Thus, the question of divorce does not arise. Our separation happened long back, but I did not speak about it as I intended to keep my private life to myself.”
In her statement, Nusrat Jahan also accused Nikhil of mishandling her money. The MP also alleged that his family members have illegally held back her assets, the jewellery given to her by her patents.
Actor-turned-politician Nusrat Jahan tied the knot with Nikhil Jain in Bodrum of Turkey in 2019. The wedding ceremony was done as per Turkish Marriage Regulation as revealed by Nusrat. She got married few weeks after making her political debut winning the Lok Sabha Elections 2019. A reception was also held in Kolkata which chief minister Mamata Banerjee attended.
Recent reports of a rift between the couple raised its head. Rumours abounded that Nusrat is dating fellow actor-politician Yash Dasgupta.
