Tips on how you can reduce your plastic usage

Plastic is everywhere. Right from the moment you wake up to the moment you sleep, you use a minimum of 6 products in a day and… that’s bad. More than 8 million tons of plastic is dumped into our oceans every year and that’s just the ones which are dumped. There is no count of how much of the plastic is not reusable.

With little effort, you can easily curb your plastic usage.

Check out these easy ways you can start reducing your waste in your everyday life!

1. Carry a reusable shopping bag with you

Whether you are going grocery shopping at the supermarket or going on a shopping spree at the mall, bring your own bag with you. A single plastic bag can take 1,000 years to degrade. Purchase or make your own reusable produce bag and be sure to wash them often!

2. Ditch that plastic water bottle

Most stores and many companies make a variety of reusable water bottles. Made in all sizes, shapes, and materials, there is no reason to continue to use plastic water bottles. If a family of 5 all hopped on board with this greener practice that means as a family they would stop about 850 water bottles from having to be produced.

3. Pack your lunch in reusable containers

Get rid of that plastic Ziplock baggie and use something more eco-friendly than single-use plastic. You can easily pack your lunch in steel containers. They are more easy to carry, they don’t break easily and a great way to keep your mom happy too.

4. Switch to e-billing

It is 2018… And you still get your bills mailed to you? E-billing may very well be one of the most overlooked green practices that we could all be doing. There is no need to get your emails in the delivery when you can easily get them online.

5. Treat yourself to an ice cream cone.

Instead of keeping containers of ice cream in the freezer, enjoy the occasional ice cream cone while you are out. That’ll keep your ice cream consumption down, which is better for your health, and it also does away with the plastic-lined containers as well.

6. Stop buying bottled water

Unless there’s some kind of contamination crisis, plastic water bottles are an easy target for reducing waste. Instead, keep a refillable bottle handy.

7. Say no to straws

Whether for home use or when you’re ordering a drink at a bar or restaurant, plastic straws are often a single-use item that’s just not necessary. You can have that coffee or that glass of juice without a plastic straw too.

8. Go digital

Go digital when it comes to your music and movies. No need for plastic CDs and DVDs if you can buy it online.

9. Newspapers

A newspaper and an early morning cup of tea are how you’ve always seen your dad in the morning. But now the online newspapers are a great way to read about the daily happenings too. They are quicker, and those daily feed keep you updated always.

So, what are you waiting for, go make a change!!
