Thugs of Hindostan movie review: Aamir Khan, Amitabh Bachchan – starrer disappoints
Director: Vijay Krishna Acharya
Cast: Aamir Khan, Amitabh Bachchan, Fatima Sana Shaikh and Katrina Kaif
Rating: 2/5
One of the most awaited films of the year, Thugs of Hindostan has hit the theatres on Thursday morning. Unfortunately, the movie starring Aamir Khan, Amitabh Bachchan, Katrina Kaif and Fatima Sana Shaikh was not up to the expectations of audience and filmy pundits.
Despite all the hype that the Vijay Krishna Acharya’s directorial created with its trailer, songs and promotions, the film turned out to be a ‘grand ship’ that sank. A packed theatre in an early morning show is not usual, but the audiences looked like they sacrificed their morning sleep for nothing.
However, coming to the story, this is the first time when Aamir Khan and Amitabh Bachchan have collaborated for any film and that too for the biggest film of the year. The film is set in the backdrop of British India when few revolutionaries were fighting against the British government for the freedom.
Khudabaksh (Amitabh Bachchan) is like a commander who uses some wily tactics to fool the Britishers and loot a ship for his fight. Aamir Khan is a thug who is appointed by a British officer to stop Khudabaksh in his mission.
Overall, it’s a complicated story that had the potential to be entertaining but poorly executed. The only silver lining in the movie are the sets and the production values are of an international level.
Amitabh Bachchan has little to do except fight and deliver some really loaded dialogues, Katrina Kaif has an inconsequential special appearance, Fatima Sana Shaikh shines but only briefly and Aamir Khan‘s jokes fall flat.
Trade analyst Taran Adarsh has stated this film as totally disappointing. Taran Adarsh tweeted, ‘All that glitters is NOT gold… Holds true for #TOH… Some engrossing moments in the first hour, that’s about it… Formula-ridden plot, screenplay of convenience, shoddy direction are the main culprits…’
#OneWordReview…#ThugsOfHindostan: DISAPPOINTING.

He also tweeted, #ThugsOfHindostan may reap the benefit of the holiday period + tremendous hype + impressive names in its cast… But will find it difficult to sustain after the initial euphoria settles down… #TOH is a golden opportunity lost, a KING-SIZED DISAPPOINTMENT!’
