One of the much-awaited Hollywood movies of 2019, The Lion King is scheduled to release this Friday (19th July 2019). The Disney live-action movie is a remake of the 1994 animated movie. The movie is directed by Jon Favreau and features Donald Glover, Seth Rogen, Chiwetel Ejiofor, Alfre Woodard, Billy Eichner, John Kani, John Oliver, James Earl Jones and Beyoncé Knowles-Carter voicing the iconic characters. The audience has given mixed reviews to the movie, both nationally as well as internationally. However, the box office predicts a big collection on its opening day in India.
Trade analyst Girish Johar told Pinkvilla that the movie is expected to open between the range of Rs 13 to 15 crore, all languages included. “I am expecting a good start at the box office,” he said. He also said that while the reviews might be mixed, it all boils down to the viewers’ decision of watching it or not. “It depends on how the Indian viewers connect with the film. I remember The Jungle Book had mixed reviews in the West but it did fantastic in India. The Lion King has been dubbed in Hindi, Telugu, and Tamil and taken the top stars to voice the roles. In Hindi, it is Shah Rukh Khan and Aryan Khan so the traction of the movie is high,” he said.
He also predicted that The Lion King could exceed Spider-Man: Far From Home’s Day 1 collection in India. The Tom Holland starrer released on a Thursday and earned a box office collection of Rs 9.75 crore, according to Box Office India.
As per the predictions, The Lion King could record as the third-highest opening day collection for a Hollywood movie.
