Today, the makers have dropped online the trailer of The Current War. It stars Benedict Cumberbatch, Michael Shannon and Nicholas Hoult in lead roles. Cumberbatch plays Thomas Edison, Michael Shannon plays George Westinghouse and Nicholas Hoult plays Nikola Tesla. Set in the backdrop of the late 19th century, the movie shows the rivalry between Edison, Tesla and Westinghouse for the rights to provide power distribution across the world.
The story revolves around Edison trying to use DC technology to introduce light in Manhattan and his battle with Westinghouse and his partner Tesla’s AC electrical current.
The movie has been written by Michael Mitnick and directed by Alfonso Gomez-Rejon. It was premiered at the Toronto International Film festival in 2017 but received negative reviews from critics. Now the director has made a few changes in its music, run time, and also added a few new scenes.
The film also has Tom Holland, Katherine Waterston, and Tuppence Middleton. The movie is slated to release in October this year. It was earlier scheduled to release on December 22, 2017, but due to MeToo accusations on Harvey Weinstein, the distributor of the movie, it was shelved.
