At least two workers of the National Conference (NC) identified as Nazir Bhat and Mushtaq Wani were shot dead and another was injured after terrorists opened fire in Karfali Mohalla area of Srinagar city.
The police spokesperson said, “Terrorists fired from a close range in the Karfali Mohalla area of the city. Two National Conference workers close to Jabbar Kadal were killed. Another was critically injured.”
The sources close to police have told NDTV that the Pakistan-based terror outfit Hizbul Mujahideen is suspected to be behind the attack.
Leaders of the National Conference (NC) and People’s Democratic Party (PDP) – Omar Abdullah and Mehbooba Mufti – have strongly condemned the killings.
Omar Abdullah in a tweet said, “I cannot condemn strongly enough the murderous terrorist attack against three of my party workers. Nazir Ahmed Bhat (working in the office of MLA Shamima Firdous) & Mushtaq Ahmed Wani have been killed. Allah Jannat naseeb karey.”
Meanwhile, former Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti in a tweet said, “Pained to hear about the killing of two NC workers. My heart goes out to their families and children.”
This comes a day after Jammu and Kashmir’s Kupwara Police arrested two Over Ground Workers (OGW) belonged to Hizbul Mujahideen terror outfit from Lolab area.
