Cases of mob lynching in the name of religion have become often these days, but the violence based on inter-caste marriages have not stopped either. In the latest incident, a man was hacked to death in front of his wife in Telangana’s Nalgonda district on Friday. The incident took place just after six months of their inter-caste love marriage.
According to the police, the incident took place when Pranay Kumar and his wife Amrutha Varshini were coming out of a hospital in Miryalguda town, 150 km from Hyderabad. An unidentified man attacked him with a machete in broad daylight.
The police further said that they have seen the CCTV footage and it shows that Pranay was attacked from behind by a youth and then attacked on his neck. Though he (Pranay), collapsed on the spot, but the attacker continued hacking him even as the woman tried to save her husband.
After attacking Pranay, the accused escaped, while Amrutha was seen rushing into the hospital to seek help. By the time help could reach, Pranay died. As per the reports, the couple — belonging to different castes — married despite opposition from her parent. Police are investigating the matter and suspect the involvement of relatives in the murder.
