The dates for the Assembly elections in Telangana were announced weeks ago and simultaneously political parties have started the preparations. In order to take a stock of the poll preparedness, Chief Election Commissioner Om Prakash Rawat and Election Commissioners Sunil Arora and Ashok Lavasa will reach Hyderabad on Monday.
Informing the details, Telangana Chief Electoral Officer Rajat Kumar said on Sunday, as quoted by Indian Express, “The Chief Election Commissioner and two ECs are coming to Hyderabad tomorrow. It is a visit of the Commission. They would review the preparedness for the polls. If there is anything that their attention is drawn then they will look into that also.”
As per the official statement released, the EC will meet the political parties of the state. Along with this, the team — led by Rawat — will also meet Director General of the Income Tax Department, senior officials of the state government and the police department. The team is scheduled to return to the national capital on October 24.
The Election Commission had announced the dates for Assembly elections in five states, including Telangana, on October 6. The state will go for polls on December 7 and the results will be announced on December 11. It is to be known that the elections were likely to take place in Telangana along with 2019 Lok Sabha elections, but TRS government dissolved the Assembly on September 6, as per a recommendation of the state cabinet.
