In an unfortunate turn of events, the former Assam Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi took his last breathe today at Gauhati Medical College and Hospital (GMCH) he was admitted to Guwahati Medical College Hospital (GMCH) since November 2 with post-COVID complications and was on non-invasive ventilation (NIV). The health condition of the former CM deteriorated on Monday and the doctors said that his condition is “very very critical”, PTI reported.
On Sunday, his health had worsened due to multiple organ failure. “Doctors of GMCH have administered medicines to revive his organs. His health condition is deteriorating since Saturday evening,” the Assam Health minister said. Reportedly, his blood pressure was fluctuating and he was breathing entirely with the help of machines. On Sunday, doctors had performed dialysis on him as he was not able to pass urine naturally due to a kidney problem, reported to PTI.
The former CM was also hospitalized on August 26 after he was tested positive for the novel Coronavirus and had spent two months in hospital.
According to a report in NDTV, Gogoi’s family, including his wife Dolly, daughter Chandrima, and son Gaurav have been at the GMCH since Sunday night. Assam Health Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma was also present at the hospital along with the Congress leader’s son, Gaurav Gogoi.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi offered his condolences on Twitter, he wrote, “Shri Tarun Gogoi Ji was a popular leader and a veteran administrator, who had years of political experience in Assam as well as the Centre. Anguished by his passing away. My thoughts are with his family and supporters in this hour of sadness. Om Shanti.”
