Tamilisai Soundararjan ‘nominates’ PM Modi for Nobel Peace Prize
Bharatiya Janata Party’s Tamil Nadu president Tamilisai Soundararjan has nominated Prime Minister Narendra Modi for Nobel Peace Prize for launching the ‘world’s largest’ health scheme — Ayushman Bharat — on Monday. Supporting her move, her husband — Professor Dr P Soundarajan, Head of Department and Senior Consultant in Nephrology at a private university — too nominated Modi for Nobel prize.
Informing about the development, the party released a statement. It said, “Prime Minister Narendra Modi has been nominated for Nobel Peace Prize 2019 for launching the world’s largest healthcare scheme ‘Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana — Ayushman Bharat, by Dr Tamilisai Soundararajan.”
The state BJP chief was also of the opinion that the PM’s launched health scheme is a “path-breaking initiative” and will transform the lives of millions of people, especially the underprivileged and vulnerable. Adding more, the release said, “The last date for Nomination for Nobel Peace Prize 2019 is January 31, 2019. The nomination processes start in September each year. University Professors and Members of Parliament among others can also nominate our Prime Minister.”
Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday had rolled out the Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana (PMJAY) — Ayushman Bharat in Ranchi and had termed it a “game-changer initiative to serve the poor”.
It is to be known that Narendra Modi was accused in the 2002 Gujarat riots, in which thousands of innocent people were murdered brutally. During that time, he was the chief minister of the state. However, the Supreme Court acquitted him of all charges later.
The question here remains, is it so easy to nominate someone for Nobel Peace Prize, with a history of alleged violence! May be he has been proved not guilty, but it is the Nobel committee to decide whether to proceed with the nomination for a person, who was once denied United States visa based on alleged charges mentioned above.
