Tamil Nadu: Stolen Panchaloha idols of Hindu deities found abandoned in Dindigul
At least four antique Panchaloha idols of Hindu deities that were stolen from the ancient Chitraradha Vallabha Perumal temple in Kuruvithurai near in Madurai city were found abandoned in a private agricultural farm in neighbouring Dindigul district, on Tuesday morning.
Notably, the four antique idols of Lord Vallabha Perumal, Goddess Sridevi, Goddess Boomadevi and Lord Srinivasa Perumal were stolen on Saturday night.
The police official, in a statement, said that the two unidentified men broke into the Chitraradha Vallabha Perumal by jumping over the compound wall even as six security men of the village were guarding the temple and stole the idols of four Hindu deities on Saturday midnight.
“Footage of closed-circuit television camera network in the temple showed two masked men entering the premises and stealing the idols,” the official added.
However, the police were yet to identify the culprits. The panchaloha idols are believed to be over 100-years old.
