DMK’s Stalin asks for Tamil Nadu Chief Minister’s resignation
The violence in Tamil Nadu has been rising ever since the people have been protesting against the Sterlite Copper Unit in Tuticorin, Tamil Nadu.
The DMK has now demanded TN Chief Minister Edappadi K Palaniswami’s resignation. DMK is not pleased with how Palaniswami’s government handled the protests.
Criticizing Palaniswami for not managing the situation efficiently, MK Stalin, working President of DMK, says, “Even after the death of 12 innocent people, no action has been taken against the culprits. CM has become ineffective. Therefore, we demand that CM must resign immediately, DGP Rajendran must resign too”.
Stalin also visited the injured protestors in local hospitals of Thootukudi on Wednesday. He was furious that the CM has not visited the injured yet. He then further added, “Is he not concerned about their welfare? He has not even bothered to visit the district and meet the people.”
The party has now called for a statewide bandh on Friday and has demanded that the plant – owned by Sterlite, the copper unit of Vedanta, be permanently shut.
A Madurai bench of Madras High Court on Wednesday had issued a stay order on construction activities here.
In the meantime, the internet services have been shut down in the area. For five days. So far, 67 people have been arrested with the charges of indulging in the violence. Vedanta’s stock took a dive by 2%. He also requested the state government to ensure the safety of his employees.
