Popular Tamil television actress VJ Chitra committed suicide a few days back. The police have now arrested her husband Hemnath in Chennai. He has been charged with abetment to suicide case. Hemanth was arrested after several rounds of interrogation after Chitra’s mother accused him of “beating” her daughter to death.
As reported by NDTV, The day VJ Chitra died Hemanth had pushed her. He was angry over a scene she had enacted for a show. Police sources, however, had said that based on the post-mortem report, the actor had died by suicide and financial issues have emerged as a possible reason.
Chitra and Hemanth were staying at a hotel in Nazarethpettai, Chennai. Hemanth told the police that Chitra locked herself in the room right after returning from the shoot that night around 2:30 AM. When she didn’t respond for long, he apparently informed the hotel authorities who opened the room using a duplicate key to only find her dead.
Chitra was a popular face among the Tamil television audience. She has hosted shows on major Tamil television channels, including Makkal TV, Jaya TV and Zee Tamizh, in addition to taking up serials on multiple channels. The popular actress was also best known for playing the role of Mullai in the popular show Pandian Stores. She was also quite active on social media and had a humongous fan following. Her fans are in a shock ever since news of her suicide went viral.
