Agra was lashed by Gusty wind and heavy showers that left behind a trail of destruction in the city. The 124 km per hour velocity storm-ravaged several structures in the city. It also caused damage to greenery as many trees too were uprooted in the monument’s complex.
Many buildings and houses were damaged. The iconic Taj Mahal too faced the brunt of nature. It was slightly damaged due to a thunderstorm on Friday night in Uttar Pradesh’s Agra district.
As reported by sources to PTI, The marble railing of the main mausoleum and red sandstone railings suffered damage due to the thunderstorm. A part of the iron scaffolding that was being used for the mud pack treatment of the monument of love came crashing down. A red sand stoned boundary was also damaged at the rear.
ASI Superintending Archaeologist Basant Kumar Swarnkar said, At the main western gate entrance, a stone supporting the arch was loosened. It has been restored. The visitor’s gallery too suffered damage. The false ceiling in the mausoleum was also uprooted
Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath expressed grief over the loss of lives due to lightning and thunderstorm in Mainpuri, Agra, Lakhimpur Khiri, and Muzaffarnagar districts. He has directed the officials to provide Rs 4 lakh to the kin of each of the deceased. Adequate medical treatment for the injured too will be given.
The Weather department has warned of thunderstorm accompanied by lightning and squall. They will occur at isolated places over the state in the next few days.
