Pending criminal cases: SC issues notice to Maharashtra CM Devendra Fadnavis
The Supreme Court of India today issued a notice to Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis for not disclosing two criminal cases against him. It is to be noted that Devendra Fadnavis did not declare the cases of cheating and defamation against him in 2014 affidavit.
while hearing a petition seeking his disqualification as a legislator for hiding two criminal cases pending against him, the apex court has issued a notice against Fadnavis.
Apparently, the petitioner, Satish Ukey had earlier filed a petition in the court of Judicial Magistrate in Nagpur but it was dismissed. He then approached the Sessions Court, which directed the Judicial Magistrate to reconsider its decision.
Maharashtra Cheif Minister challenged the Sessions Court’s decision in Nagpur bench of Bombay High Court, which dismissed the case by maintaining the Judicial Magistrate’s decision. Ukey then challenged the High Court’s decision in the apex court.
