IPL 2020: Sunrisers Hyderabad Replace Kane Williamson With David Warner For Captain
David Warner has previously captained Sunrisers Hyderabad from 2015 to 2017
Sunrisers Hyderabad replaced Kane Williamson with David Warner as captain for the upcoming IPL 2020. Williamson took over the reins in 2018 when Warner was banned from the season due to a ball-tampering incident in Australia.
Sunrisers Hyderabad got to the finals in 2018 under Kane Williamson. However, they lost out to Chennai Super Kings. He was also the tournament’s lead run-scorer with 735 runs. Sunrisers couldn’t recreate their success in last year’s tournament though. They lost to Delhi Capitals finishing fourth on the points table.
David Warner has previously captained Sunrisers Hyderabad from 2015 to 2017. He led the team to their sole Indian Premier League win in 2016. Sunrisers defeated Royal Challengers Bangalore by 8 runs in the final to win their maiden IPL title. However, SRH will miss out on the services of captain Warner for a couple of matches at the start as he is still a part of England’s Test squad. Previously, Sunrisers appointed England’s World Cup-winning coach Trevor Bayliss as the new head coach. He replaced Tom Moody who had been associated with the franchise since the first season in 2013.
Sunrisers Hyderabad is owned by Kalanithi Maran of the Sun TV Network. The team was founded in 2012 after the Hyderabad-based Deccan Chargers were terminated by the IPL. SRH is considered one of the best bowling teams in the IPL, known for their ability to defend low totals. David Warner is the leading run-scorer for the team and has won the Orange Cap 3 times, in 2015, 2017, and 2019. Bhuvneshwar Kumar is the leading wicket-taker. He won the purple Cap in 2017 after taking 26 wickets. The team also won the Fair Play Award in 2016 and 2019.
